What is rypil?
rypil is infrastructure that connects everyday purchases to community causes. When you shop at a participating local business, that business funds a contribution to a cause you chose. You shop the way you already do — there's no extra cost, no coupons, and no change at checkout.
How does rypil work?
You pick a cause you care about and securely link the account you shop with. When you make a purchase at a participating business, rypil recognizes the eligible transaction and the business funds a contribution to your chosen cause. Businesses set their contribution as a percentage of the purchase, and only confirmed purchases generate a contribution.
Does rypil cost me anything?
No rypil is free for supporters to use. You do not pay a membership fee, and rypil does not add anything to your purchase price. The participating business funds the contribution, not you.
Do I pay anything extra when I shop?
No. You pay the normal purchase price. Contributions are funded by participating businesses when eligible purchases happen.
How does rypil connect to my bank, and is it safe?
rypil uses secure account linking (through Plaid) only to recognize eligible purchases. rypil does not receive your bank login, does not see your full card number, cannot charge your card, and cannot move money from your account. It sees transaction activity, nothing more.
Why do I need to connect an account?
Connecting an account allows rypil to recognize eligible purchases without requiring coupons, receipt uploads, QR codes, or special checkout steps.
This is what lets you shop like normal while still helping generate support for your chosen cause.
Can rypil charge my card or move money from my account?
No. rypil cannot charge your card, withdraw funds, move money, or make purchases on your behalf.
Your connected account is used to recognize purchases at participating businesses.
Does rypil see my bank login or full card number?
No. rypil does not receive your bank login credentials and does not see your full card number.
Account linking is handled through a trusted financial account-linking provider.
How do I choose a cause?
When you join rypil, you select the nonprofit you want your everyday shopping to support.
Can I change my cause?
Yes. You can update your selected cause in rypil if you want future purchases to support a different nonprofit.
What counts as a contribution-generating purchase?
A contribution-generating purchase is a transaction made by a registered rypil supporter at a participating business.
Where can I use rypil?
rypil is live in select communities and expanding throughout the year.

Is rypil a cashback or rewards app?
No. With cashback apps, money comes back to you. With rypil, the business funds a contribution to a cause you chose — the value goes to your community, not your wallet.
Is rypil a coupon or discount service?
No. rypil doesn't change your price or your checkout. There are no codes to enter, no coupons to clip, and no receipts to upload. You pay the same as you always would.
Where is rypil available?
rypil is starting in select Chicagoland communities and expanding throughout the year. Even if there aren't participating businesses near you yet, joining helps show where supporters are waiting for rypil to grow next.
What if rypil is not active near me yet?
You can still join rypil and choose your cause. Your participation helps show where supporters are waiting for rypil to grow.
You can also nominate nonprofits and share rypil with local businesses in your area.
What happens if I return something?
If a purchase is refunded, the related contribution may be adjusted or reversed based on the refunded amount.
How does rypil make money?
Participating businesses contribute a percentage of purchases to the shopper’s chosen cause and pay a platform fee to rypil.
Supporters do not pay to use rypil.
Can I invite friends and family?
Yes. rypil is built to grow through people who care about creating impact. As more supporters join, more businesses and nonprofits can become part of the network.
What if my favorite nonprofit is not listed?
You can nominate a nonprofit you care about. As rypil grows, we will continue adding nonprofits and expanding the causes supporters can choose from.
Is rypil a donation or crowdfunding platform?
Not quite. rypil isn't where you go to give money directly. Contributions are funded by businesses and triggered by real purchases — so support is tied to shopping you're already doing, not separate donations.
